PORTLAND United will be gunning for revenge on Laverstock & Ford at Grove Corner tomorrow (3pm).

Ford are just one of two teams to beat the title-chasing Blues in league action this season, with Archie Lovegrove and Rob

Gallagher sinking Gary Bailey’s side in the reverse fixture last month.

In an interview with Echosport after that game, Bailey described that showing from the Blues as their “worst performance of

the season” and will be looking for much more from his charges

when they head into battle tomorrow.

He told Echosport: “Obviously we dropped points and got beat up there and rightly so, we didn’t turn up and do ourselves any justice whatsoever.

“We know what we are going to get, obviously it’s at home this time, which is in our favour because our home record speaks for itself at the moment.

“We are expecting a tough test. Laverstock are up there and have been on a good run.”

Bailey revealed Ross Doidge saw a physio about his back problem earlier in the week.

Adam Linaker, who was unavailable for the win over Alton in midweek, is suffering with a foot injury.

The island manager is also hoping Paul Best is going to be available for the first time since picking up a calf problem.

He added: “If they all come through, I will be at full strength.”

Ford’s two goals in the last encounter between the sides remarkably make up a ninth of the total league goals Portland have conceded this term.

The Blues have only shipped a remarkable 18 goals from 27 games played.

On their defensive record, Bailey added: “It’s a testament to the goalkeeper and the back four but, as a unit, it’s also right from the front as well.

“The players’ have shown great discipline in the shape, discipline, and jobs we ask them to do and their work rate is relentless.

“They work so hard when we haven’t got the ball to get their shape and win the ball back.

“It’s form like that which, hopefully, gives you the opportunity to go on and win leagues.

“We have always worked on making sure we have got ourselves right first and it has stood us in good stead. That’s what we are going to carry on with.”

A victory for the Blues this weekend could see their lead extended at the top of the pile to eight points from title rivals Amesbury Town.

Amesbury are set to make the trip to 10th-placed Fleet Spurs tomorrow.
