MAGPIES’ boss Mark Jermyn was left wanting more from his players after his side lost 4-1 at home to Kettering Town on Saturday.

The hosts struggled to compete in the first half against a strong Poppies side.

And despite the fighting spirit shown from the 10 men of the county town side, the boss wanted his players to send the season off in a better fashion.

He said: “It was the last home game of the season and I just felt that we could have put in a better performance than we did.

“Having said that, second half we came back into it and we competed well.”

The most controversial moment of the game came 10 minutes before the break as Franklyn Clarke was shown a straight red as he reacted to Poppies’ Ben Stephen’s tackle and goad.

Jermyn felt both players were culpable and the officials could have done more.

“The referee (Ben Cobb) is a good guy. You can talk to him and I told him what I saw, which was both players shove each other in the face. He only saw the tail-end of it.

“I was more annoyed with the linesman as he was stood next to me and he said he didn’t see it.

“It’s frustrating because one of their players said their lad (Stephens) should have been sent off.

“Having said that, you have to roll with the punches and move on.”
