WEYMOUTH sailing star Sam Pascoe had a great result at a recent International 14 event.

The Castle Cove Sailing Club member competed with regular helm, Glen Truswell at the annual Hayling Hull open meeting. The pair are the current European, National and World Champions.

In attendance at Hayling Island Sailing Club were more than 10 other competitive pairings. They were all met with a cold northerly wind of 10 to 15 knots on the first day.

In the first race, Pascoe and Truswell gave a successful performance to take the win followed by a further victory in the second race.

The duo led for much of race three until the wind began to give unpredictable shifts, unfortunately meaning that one boat was able to sneak past the pair in the final leg of the race.

Pascoe and Truswell made the most of the small fleet on day two due to the weather, winning yet another race.

The shifty wind conditions continued to cause problems for the race officer resulting in many failed start sequences. When the race finally got underway, the duo achieved another win. In the last race of the event, the pair were black flagged. Fortunately for them, this was their discarded result.

Pascoe and Truswell were the winners of the event, two points ahead of Roger Gilbert and Ben McGrane from Netley Sailing Club.

n The International 14 fleet will return to Hayling Island Sailing Club in June for their national championships.
