CALVIN Brooks admits there is “unfinished business” in his career at Weymouth and that was one of the main reasons he decided to stay at the club next season.

The talented defender, who joined up permanently with the Terras in January 2015 after a successful loan spell from Yeovil Town, penned a fresh oneyear deal at the Bob Lucas Stadium last week.

And, speaking to Echosport after signing on the dotted line, the 21-year-old admitted he had a number of offers to play his football elsewhere before showing his loyalty to Terras’ boss Jason Matthews.

He said: “I had about three or four solid offers and a couple more (clubs) phoned me or asked me to come up for a trial. There have been a couple of offers at clubs that have come out of the Football League.

“I have had a few options but one of the reasons I wanted to stay is mainly because you get that feeling that there is a bit of unfinished business.

“It’s disappointing to do two seasons and not even get into the play-offs. I just feel that everyone has let the fans down a little bit to be honest, partly me, and I just want to put that right.

“I had my time at Yeovil and I just feel I am in a better position if I’m playing every week and I’m comfortable. If people want me then I’m sure they can come and get me, it’s not going to be that expensive at the end of the year.”

He added: “You always have a look at what offers are out there but, at the same time, I get treated well at Weymouth and I enjoy being there.

“It’s a massive club for the level it’s at and, to be honest, there isn’t many better options out there than what I have at the moment. I am happy and you don’t always get that in football, I have learnt that.

“It’s difficult to walk away when you feel you haven’t achieved what you could have achieved, I definitely feel there is more to come.”

Brooks, who captained the side on the field during the latter stages of the campaign this season, also revealed that he has spoken to boss Matthews about potential transfer targets.

One name the centre-half always brings to the table is older brother Marvin, who scored twice against the Terras for Poole Town last term.

Brooks added: “Jase has always asked for my opinion of who I think could better the side and I have always tried to drop my brother’s name in there! I have always tried to get my brother to come over but it’s just too difficult.”
