IT’S D-Day at Dorchester Town today as the club’s management are set to find out their budget for the upcoming season.

The Magpies’ board met last night to finalise their options and move a step closer to clarity.

The ongoing Park & Ride issue has left Dorchester having to change their plans and although there is uncertainty surrounding the situation, manager Mark Jermyn insists that there is “no doom and gloom” around the club.

He told Echosport before the meeting: “We don’t know what money we are playing with and this has been frustrating from a players’ point of view because they want to know what they are doing for next season.

“But the club comes first and it’s about looking after the football club, and we can’t go and make rash decisions.

“I believe the Park & Ride has had an impact but I’ve been assured that they (the board) are doing everything they can to rectify that.”

The budget may lead Jermyn down a different recruitment route.

He added: “We may have to look at people older, who are heading to the end of their career or people who are just starting theirs.

“It means we probably won’t go after players that are in their peak, because their demands for money will be greater.

“We just have to make sure we are careful.”

“It’s not all doom and gloom, it just means we have to recruit as well as last season and make sure we talk to as many people as we can.”

Jermyn also revealed some current players have been spoken to about next season and he will be speaking to the rest of the squad as soon as he finds out his playing funds.
