COMPTON HOUSE 182 (11pts) lost to PORTLAND RT 200-8 (20pts) by 18 runs

PORTLAND Red Triangle made it two wins out of three in County Division Two with an 18 run victory at Compton House.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Triangle got off to a steady start and set their total intelligently.

Simon Proffitt batted with experience to get up to 49 and Dave Adkins produced a fine knock to score 55.

That allowed the island outfit to finish their innings on 200-8.

Following the interval, Portland look to attack and gain a breakthrough with their opening bowlers and managed to pick up a flurry of early wickets to put themselves in the box seat.

Compton House found themselves 30-5 with John Cameron picking up 3-11 and Matt Barrett claiming the other two victims.

Portland then turned to Gary Randell to add some control and discipline to the attack and struck twice more. Proffitt kept things tight at the other end.

Skipper Matt Randell came into the attack and bowled with good variation to pick up two wickets and when the scores were getting closer, Portland handed the ball to Matt Barrett to finish off proceedings with 18 runs left to spare.

Randell said: “It was nice to get another away win. Throughout the year it’s the games you win away from home that make the difference to the final table.

“Simon Proffitt has looked solid so far this year and hopefully that continues as he adds a lot of depth to our batting line up.

“Dave Adkins is one of our most experienced players and he showed that on Saturday holding the innings together to get us up to that 200. It is all about us just keeping getting the results now. Hopefully we can get some good momentum going and that will keep us winning.”

Red Triangle will now look to put the pressure on current league leaders Branksome, who have 56 points from a possible 60 so far, at Reforne (1.30pm) tomorrow.

And the captain is fully aware that there is a long way to go in their league campaign.

He added: “I have no worries about the game, although they

are top it is very early in the

year and a lot can change

from now until the end of the season.”

* Portland's second team totalled 179-6 to chase the score set by Bradford Abbas and win by four wickets in County Division Six last Saturday.
