SIMON Mitchem has called for his Dorchester batsmen to be “selfish” and not pass up the accountability of putting runs on the board.

The county town side go into tomorrow’s test at Sherborne (1pm) having been skittled out for just 114 at home against Poole last week and Mitchem is hopeful of seeing a vast improvement.

He said: “If you score between 220 and 240 in most games you are probably going to win. That’s the thing, if we bat first we have to make sure we get a good total on the board.

“We have got the players and the ability to do it. It’s just a case of being selfish, getting your head down and setting that platform.

“A big thing we are focusing on at the moment is that selfishness when you bat. You shouldn’t palm off the responsibility to other people.”

Will McKay comes back into the Dorchester side in place of Quenton Miller, who is unavailable.

Giving his thoughts on this weekend’s contest against the reigning league champions, Mitchem added: “It will be a tough test. They are a very good side, they have been there done it and have the experience but we are confident in our ability to get a good result.

“We want to go out there and put things right.”
