HOPES of any cricket today were quashed by the rain as both Dorchester and Weymouth's fixtures were abandoned before a ball was bowled.

Both sides had away games - Weymouth were due to face Wimborne & Colehill Seconds and Dorchester were away to Sherborne - but with the abandonments the sides have now been forced to sit out due to the adverse weather.

Dorchester captain Simon Mitchem said: "It is disappointing not to play because everyone wanted to play.

"It would've been a very competitive game and they left it until the last possible minute but the weather has taken its course.

"We will train on Tuesday and get ready for our next game on Saturday."

Dorchester Seconds have also had their game cancelled.
