PORTLAND United celebrated their successful league campaign at their end-of-season awards.

For the first team, Alex Godfrey was the man of the night, picking up the players’ player of the year award alongside Alex Halloran.

He was also the top goal scorer at the club.

It was also a great night for the Will family. Gareth Will won manager’s player of the year, while younger brother Jack won young player of the year.

There were also prizes for Jonny Will who picked up two reserve awards.

Manager Gary Bailey, who picked up clubman of the year, said it was the perfect way to cap off the season.

He told Echosport: “It was an excellent way to celebrate what was a fantastic season. It was a great night had by all.

“I was very proud and surprised to pick up the clubman of the year award. It’s an award that’s held in high-esteem at the club and I am very honoured to have won it.

“There was a nice spread of awards, which shows just how well the side played last season.

It was fitting to see them shared around.”

There were also awards for Ross Carmichael (supporters’ player of the year) and Shaun Bessant (most improved player).

Rory Zima was the reserves’ top goalscorer.

It was the Sydenhams Wessex League awards night last Saturday.

Along with picking up the Division One trophy, the Blues also won best programme in Division One thanks mainly to Linda Mc- Kechnie who compiled it this season.

They also came second in the Division One fair play table.

Chairman Robin Satherley also paid tribute to the hard working committee members at the club and thanked everyone who kindly sponsored the club in various ways throughout the season.

He also thanked their loyal supporters.
