MARTINSTOWN 190 (5pts) lost to BROADSTONE 191-3 (20pts) by seven wickets

MARTINSTOWN failed to take advantage of Wimborne & Colehill’s slip up at Dorchester as they suffered a seven-wicket loss against Broadstone at Lower Ashton Farm.

Broadstone won the toss and elected to field, which looked like a fairly shrewd move having restricted Ed Nichols’ men to just 190, bowling Martinstown out in 39 overs.

Both Nichols and fellow opener Lee House fell for double figures as Martinstown, who had gone into the game level at the top of the division with Wimborne, were reeling at 19-2.

Ben Lawes then made 39 batting at four and an array of others chipped in around him to give the hosts something to bowl at with 190.

Ross Tooley snared four wickets for Broadstone and, with the bat, they knocked the required runs off with relative ease.

Opener Pete Russell set the tone with 69 coming from 91 balls, including 11 fours – Daniel Cook and Matthew Jones eventually saw the away side home with just under 12 overs to spare.

  • In County Division Four, Charlton Down retained their unbeaten record as they overcame Abbotsbury by three wickets.

Despite 65 from Abbotsbury skipper Simon Pengelly at the top of the order, the Swans had no answer to their early promotion rivals.

Sam Roles was left unbeaten on 49 in reply as Pete Tucker’s side got home with two overs to spare.

  • In County Division Two, Portland Red Triangle beat Marnhull by 44 runs, skittling the home side out for just 91.
