SIMON Browne is confident that his Weymouth side can beat bottom-of the-table Ferndown Wayfarers after securing their victory since the opening day of the season last weekend (1.30pm).

The captain hit a fabulous unbeaten knock of 121 in the win over Broadstone Seconds, but feels others still need to stand up and be counted despite being in form.

He told Echosport: “We all have to make the effort and not rely on others to get the runs or take the wickets.

“Yes, alright, it was me last week but there is no reason why it can’t be anyone else.

“Tomorrow is another game for us and we managed to give ourselves a shot in the arm with the win against Broadstone,

“We face Ferndown, who are bottom of the league, and we need to put as much distance between them and us as we possibly can and we want to carry on that momentum.”

Weymouth are set to make two changes to the side that beat Broadstone.

Out comes Dean Janaway and Dave Blackman and in comes Dave Pearce and Dan Hutchens.

Speaking about the changes Browne explained: “We’ve got two capable replacements for Dean and Dave (Blackman) and it is good that we can pick on form and see whether we have the right balance, rather than making sure that we have 11 bodies on the pitch.”

Along with Browne, Dom Webb bowled well in the victory, taking 3-31 from his nine overs.

Talking about Webb, Browne remarked: “Dom bowled well and Graham Puckett bowled a steady nine overs.

“We’re getting better as a bowling unit and if we can get some early wickets then we can restrict sides.

“Hopefully we can do that on Saturday.”

The two sides met back in May with Ferndown snatching a three-wicket victory after Browne had scored 89 in the first innings before Alex Sansom guided the Wayfarers to the victory with a superb 90 not out.

Browne hopes Sansom will be missing from the game in Ferndown.

“Let’s hope he has the weekend off,” Browne said jokingly. “He played really well and was the difference on the day.

“Clearly, he hasn’t fired for them since because they haven’t won many games this season.

“We have to take the same attitude into the game that we had last weekend and if we do that then there is no reason why we can’t get another win.”

“We stepped up and improved our performance (against Broadstone) and we have to carry it on.”
