WEYMOUTH midfielder Charlie Davis has warned against complacency after his side were handed a favourable draw in the Emirates FA Cup.

The Terras was pitted up against Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division outfit Brimscombe & Thrupp – a league that is equivalent to the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division – in the third qualifying round, and Davis is pleased that he will once again play at home in the competition.

He told Echosport: “The biggest thing for us is that we have got a home draw.

“Our pitch is decent, so we can play the way we want.

“On paper it’s a nice draw, but it never works out like that. Gosport would have thought that we are a nice draw but it didn’t happen like that.

“It gives us confidence that we can get another result and progress further.”

Their opponents have already won four games to get this far, beating teams like Highmoor-Ibis as well as Peacehaven and Telscombe along the way.

This is the furthest that the Lilywhites have ever progressed in the FA Cup and Davis knows it will be a huge game for both sides.

The midfielder added: “Financially, everyone knows how big this competition is for the club and it keeps us in the shop window.

“The game won’t be taken lightly, it doesn’t matter who we are playing.”

Davis has scored in both FA Cup games for the Terras this season, including a rare goal from open play in Saturday’s victory over Gosport Borough.

Speaking about his strike in the upset, he remarked: “In terms of celebration, it was probably the most enjoyable goal I have scored for Weymouth.

“All the lads celebrated on the bench with the gaffer. It was such a great feeling.

“It all seemed to come off and we played how we wanted to.

“To get that result was such a relief that everything came together.”

Weymouth’s tie with Brimscombe & Thrupp will be played on Saturday, October 1 (3pm).
