CRESTA dominated the court, taking the victory despite strong play from GW Electrical.

The first game of the season saw both teams starting off with some erratic passing.

However, Cresta managed to get the ball to GS Carolyn Allgood, whose fantastic shooting allowed her team to take an early lead.

The second quarter saw both teams find their feet and by the third quarter, Cresta had settled into their game well, with swift mid-court play, strong passing from defensive turnovers and accurate shooting.

GW Electrical’s goal defence, Laura Osbourne, worked tirelessly within the circle to restrict Cresta’s lead.

GW Electrical came into the final quarter with a fighting spirit. Cresta made a few errors in this quarter, giving GW Electrical a small boost – however, Cresta ultimately came out on top with a well-earned victory.

ARTIFEX 28

OTC 36

CONSISTENTLY great play from OTC earned them victory against Artifex Home Improvements.

The game started with OTC taking charge with WD, Tracey Hellyar, making some good interceptions for her team.

However, Artifex managed to win back the ball, thanks to good defence in OTC’s shooting circle. Excellent shooting by Eleanor Lake at GA, got Artifex off to a good start.

OTC maintained their lead through the second and third quarters with good interceptions, strong passing and accurate shooting by Mel Clark. Artifex GS, Elaine Robertson, made some brilliant shots from the edge of the circle but the team was unable to close the gap.

Artifex continued to fight back in the final quarter but OTC’s outstanding defence held them at bay, allowing OTC to finish with the win in their first Division One match.

Division Two

WJNC 60

MISSION FITNESS 9

A STRONG winter season opener for WJNC leaves Mission Fitness out in the cold.

WJNC were straight off the starting block with a solid attack and great shooting.

Mission Fitness kept a good pace throughout and fought for every ball but WJNC’s Tia Chaloner and Grace Goodwin worked hard in the mid-court to turn over balls, resulting in a 16-goal lead for WJNC after the first quarter.

In the second and third quarters, WJNC continued to increase their lead, with excellent turnouts on the circle.

Great defence by WJNC prevented Mission Fitness from closing the goal gap.

Mission Fitness’ shooting duo, Kerry Herd and Anna Mitchell, worked well to collect rebounds and increase their goal count but WJNC continued to stretch their lead with great space and excellent ball placement.

Both teams played confidently in the final quarter, but WJNC took full advantage of Mission Fitness only having six players, and finished with a comfortable win.

Division Two

ALLWAYS REMOVALS 34

THIS evenly-matched game saw Allways Removals fight to steal the win from Stika.

Despite being a player short, Allways Removals’ strong passing, along with defenders making the most of missed shots from Stika, saw them gain an early lead.

However, the arrival of Allways Removals’ seventh player saw Stika improve their game to finish a goal ahead.

Stika stormed ahead with fluid centre court play from Jess Pomeroy and accurate shooting in the second quarter.

Allways worked hard to close the gap, with GD Catherine Sweatman’s good defensive play interrupting Stika’s attack.

Great defending by both teams in the third quarter provided spectators with exciting, fast-paced play ending with Allways managing to win back the lead.

Stika gave it their all in the last quarter, working hard to win back the lead, but the Removals upped their game to secure their victory.
