DORCHESTER TOWN RESERVES 3

VERWOOD TOWN RESERVES 0

DESPITE Jason Brookes’ straight red card, Dorchester Town Reserves cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Verwood Town Reserves in the John Stimpson Memorial Shield at the Avenue Stadium.

Goals from Darryl Bagwell, Solomon Ayunga and Nick Swann wrapped up the win for the 10 men.

Bagwell opened the scoring in the first half with a composed finish for the Magpies as they controlled the game against Verwood.

This was their second game in this year’s Memorial Shield and they showed their intent with a second goal before half-time.

However, before that, Brookes was given his marching orders for what the referee deemed to be a dangerous tackle on the halfway line.

The dismissal didn’t seem to affect the Magpies as Ayunga doubled their lead before the break.

Despite their man advantage, Verwood struggled to exert any second half pressure on a side that contained five players that have been part of the first team set-up this season.

The game was put to bed midway through the second half from the spot.

However, Sam Pashen’s spot-kick was saved by Craig Jerrard.Moments later the ball fell to Swann on the edge of the box and he produced a deft chip to lob Jerrard and seal the win for the Magpies.

Up next for Richard Robson’s reserve side in the shield group stage is a trip to Wimborne Town next Wednesday (7.45pm).

Magpies: Mullis, Diaz, Payne, Bagwell, Pashen, Proffitt, Nicolson, Swann, Ayunga, Spring. Subs: Hankin, Hibbs, Tennant, Hill, Brumble
