EIGHTEEN members of Dorset Pentathletes took part in the National Tetrathlon Championships at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihull.

The sport is fencing, swimming and a combined Laser shoot and run, with only the riding missing that makes up the modern pentathlon.

In the under-13 girls, the club saw total dominance with Tottie Taylor finishing first and Lily Amor second with best fence. Vivien Taylor was third and Darcy Dryden sixth and best combined with team gold.

In the under-13 boys, Jack Amor was third, Ryan Openshaw eighth and Khalid Miah 13th with the team third.

Amy Northam took first in the under-15 girls and best combined. Elektra Covell was seventh, Issy Colwell 15th and Sarah Carr 16th with the team finishing third.

In the under-15 boys, Liam Openshaw took silver.

George Case collected gold also with best combined in the under-17 boys, while Jack White was 11th and Charlie Madden 21st as the team claimed silver.

In the under-17 girls, Libby Tolley bagged bronze, while in the under-19 girls, Zoe Gowers was fifth and Katherine Townsend 17th.

This was the best result to date for the club at the National Tetrathlon as they were one of the top teams at the event and bagged three national champions in George Case, Tottie Taylor and Amy Northam.

The main reason for the club’s success is the training that the athletes receive from Leweston School Pentathlon Academy with head coach Mick Flaherty and top coaches coming to Leweston, and not only training the school team but Dorset Pentathletes that are taking up the full modern pentathlon.

Coach Flaherty said: “The hard work is now showing some excellent results, the club have more athletes on the English Talent Programme than any other club, and three

athletes Zoe Gowers, Libby Tolley and George Case on the world class talent programme.

“This is also due to the continuing support from Leweston School.”
