BRIDPORT 3

THINGS seem to be gelling together for Bridport under boss Adam Fricker, as the Bees recorded a hat-trick of wins in all competitions on Saturday.

The St Mary’s Field side, who Fricker took charge of in the summer, have now scored 11 goals in their last three outings and kept their first clean sheet of the campaign at the weekend in their 3-0 victory at Longwell Green Sports.

And, after enduring some difficult results first of all, Bridport’s upturn in form was something manager Fricker was hopeful was always going to come.

“We are not getting carried away by any means but we knew it was going to take time for everything to gel,” he told Echosport following Saturday’s success.

“We knew we just had to put a few results together to give the lads that bit of confidence.

“We are happy, there is a long way to go but we are pleased to get a few points on the board.”

Knowing a win would take them above Longwell Green in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, Bridport secured the win in emphatic fashion.

Setting the ball rolling, the Bees opened the scoring on 15 minutes through Braeden Symes.

A cross-field ball from Andy Martin found Ed Butcher who volleyed across the box, and although Mark Salter was denied by a cracking save by the home keeper, there was Symes to put the ball home.

Dan Peach than had to be replaced with a thigh problem for Bridport inside the opening half, but it was not to stop the Bees increasing their advantage.

A pass was played into Salter, who got the ball out of his feet and struck the ball into the top corner for 2-0.

Following the break Salter then started to feel his thigh, so was taken off as a precaution, allowing Elliot Mann to be introduced and add the Bees’ third.

He latched on to a ball from Butcher five minutes after coming on and made no mistake in finding the net to wrap the contest up.

Fricker added: “I think in the first 45 minutes we weren’t great, to be honest, although we went in 2-0 up we still had a lot more to give. The lads came out in the second half and upped their intensity.

“We are chuffed, that’s three away wins on the spin.”
