DORCHESTER 15

YEOVIL 36

DORCHESTER were powerless to prevent league leaders Yeovil continuing their flawless record in Dorset & Wilts One South.

The score may have flattered the visitors but in the end, Paul Dunne’s men can have no complaint about the result.

The home side started well and following an excellent first scrum they earned a penalty. The distance was fully 40 yards out but James Baker’s sweet strike opened the scoring.

Yeovil were not long in responding, a quickly taken penalty caught the Dorchester defence dozing and some simple passing allowed the visitors to cross in the left corner.

Much of the rest of the first half was evenly fought with neither side able to dominate.

Yeovil did score a second try after they reacted quicker to an overthrown line-out.

That successful conversion gave Yeovil a nine-point lead at the break.

With the breeze behind them in the second half, Dorchester had high hopes of upsetting the league leaders and these hopes appeared to be not without foundation, when Baker burst through the Yeovil defence for Dorchester’s first try. Baker converted his own try to narrow the gap to just two points.

There then followed a bizarre period with three tries, one after the other.

Firstly, Yeovil restarted and Dorchester fumbled allowing the visitors to cross for a third time.

Dorchester then kicked off only for Yeovil to fumble, Lee King picked up and made good yards before handing on to the fly-half to score.

Once again, Dorchester dropped the restart and Yeovil again made them pay the penalty by scoring in the right-hand corner.

After this 10 minutes of madness, Yeovil still led by seven.

The match again reverted to a fairly even contest but Yeovil just had the upper hand and were able to add two more converted tries and looked to be well worth their position at the top of the pile.

The result leaves Dorchester sixth in the league table, with 15 points from their opening five contests.
