GARY Bailey is expecting a tough test as his Portland United side look to build momentum from their FA Vase win on Saturday as they travel to Amesbury Town tonight (7.45pm).

The islanders imploded in their last league game against Newport (IoW) and Bailey won’t be taking anything for granted against the Bonnymead Park outfit.

Talking to Echosport, he said: “It will be a tough game and a tough place to go.

“They have a good home record and it’s not the most welcoming place to go as an away side.”

He added: “We pitted our wits against them last season and we lost to them away from home.

“But, they’ve had a change of manager and some players have gone so we’re not reading too much into last year.

“That’s gone and we’re a much changed side from last year as well. They’re going alright and there is certainly no room for knocking off there. We will have to play well throughout to get a result.”

He continued: “We’ve got a busy period coming up and this is where our squad will come into its own.”

Ross Doidge is a doubt for tonight’s game with a groin problem that he picked up in the Vase clash with Romsey Town.

Apart from that, Bailey has an almost fit squad at his disposal as they go in search of a win against Amesbury.
