FINLEY Jarvis has his eyes set on the 2024 Olympic Games as he rounded off a stellar year with a top result in Sheffield on Sunday.

The 13-year-old, who studies at IPACA School on Portland and swims for West Dorset, has been selected for England’s Talent Education Development Programme after winning three titles at county level in the 50-metre, 100m and 200m breaststroke disciplines as well as one gold at this year’s regional championships.

His great form earned him a call-up to the talent programme, where he has swam with some of the nation’s best young talent at Millfield School.

Earlier this month, Jarvis was in Sheffield racing at the National Team County Championships where he finished second in the Division Two 100-metre breaststroke with a time of 1:12:24 – a full five seconds quicker than his previous personal best.

The feat was made all the more impressive as he swam in a short-course pool rather than the faster long-course pool.

Grandfather Peter Jarvis said: “I’m very proud of him. He is a lad that is going somewhere. He will certainly tap on the door of the Olympics in the next few years.”
