MOONFLEET ladies have advanced in the Yetton Trophy after a closely fought 66-63 victory over Torquay United Indoor bowls team at Taunton Deane.

The result sets up a quarter final tie with North Wilts to be played later this month.

Four rinks of Moonfleet ladies travelled to the neutral ground for the clash and many supporters in attendance, the stage was set for a thrilling encounter.

Kath Desmond’s rink began well only for Torquay to take control and take a 14-7 lead into the break.

The rink led my Margaret Crawford went into the break 10-5 down while Anne Chislett’s team went in live with eight apiece.

Gerd Holmes’ team led at the break but despite this Moonfleet went into the break 12 points behind leaving them with plenty to do.

The second period saw improvement with Moonfleet clawing their way back into the game with the score at 65-63 going into the final moments.

Torquay ladies tried valiantly to steal the match by clawing two late points but with the tension mounting, all attention turned to Sheila Goddard, who sent up a winning bowl to pinch the victory to the delight of the supporters in attendance.
