PORTLAND United travel to lowly Whitchurch United in tomorrow’s Sydenham’s Premier Division match (3pm).

The Blues go into the weekend fresh from Tuesday night’s 3-0 victory over Verwood Town, and manager Gary Bailey is keen to keep the positivity flowing.

He said: “When you’re in good form you want the games to keep coming to keep the momentum up. We obviously had the two games cancelled (prior to Verwood) and you’re never sure how you’re going to come back from that, no matter how much you train.

“We just have to pick up where we left off on Tuesday and go to Whitchurch with high confidence, but we know it’s going to be a tough ask up there.”

Saturday’s hosts find themselves sitting third from bottom in the league at present, but Bailey insists that the table is not a true reflection on the threat they pose.

He said: “They’re a better side than their league position suggests, and we know it’s going to be a tough ask.

“I don’t know too much about them because we’ve only played them once when we drew earlier in the season, but in that game they worked hard for each other, they were hard to break down and they get men behind the ball.

“They’ve also got a big lad in goal. He’s a youngster but he’s a giant of a keeper and he had an exceptional game at our place, and he certainly got them the point that day.

“I don’t see the game being much different to that and we’re going to have to find a way to solve those problems.”

Bailey also confirmed that Ryan McKechnie, Ross Doidge and Tom Richardson are all available for selection after being absent against Verwood.

Sean Lillington has also resumed training this week after a thigh injury and could return, while Lewis Clarke is back in training but it unlikely to feature.
