Budmouth A slipped to second after a close-fought 23-17 victory over third-placed Budmouth A.

This was a match that lived up to expectations between two of the best teams in the league.

Moses Lewis (7) was involved in three games that went the distance losing to Will Jolliffe (9) 11-9, beating Ethan Gear (2) 12-10 and losing to Jamie Blair (9) 11-8 in the deciding legs.

Gear had recovered from 8-1 down in the fifth to force deuce but then Lewis played two good points.

Shipton Gorge C had a marathon 23-17 success over Springfield C with no less then six of the matches on the night going to four sets or more. Shipton’s Dave Poole (8) was involved in three five-setters, winning two of them and losing the other to Steve Rook (9) despite being 2-1 up.

STEPS look to be romping to the Division Three title but their match against Pilgrims B will probably be one of, if not the lowest scoring match of the season.

They won it 12-5 but both teams could only field two players meaning only four singles matches were played along with the closing doubles.

Tom Lane (6) won both his matches for the victors with Barry Thomas (4) scoring a majority of Pilgrims’ points.

Springfield D solidified their second place in the division with a 30-3 victory over Wey Valley School. Thomas Wheeler, Ethan Bingham and Jules Holloway all scored a point each but the experience of the Springfield team plus some excellent play from Mike Wood (9) proved just a little too much for the young Wey Valley team.

Budmouth D beat Budmouth E 27-8 with the in-form Ben Howe (9) showing why he is one of the most improved players in the division and he was well supported by Josh Clark (8) and George Ackerley (7).

Rosa McKechnie (6) also showed the value of playing a season in the division and was involved in the match of the night against Clark, winning 11-9 in the fifth leg.
