DORCHESTER Town boss Craig Laird said that the score wasn’t a fair reflection of the game after his side lost 3-0 against Biggleswade Town.

The Magpies conceded three goals in just over 20 minutes in the second half, including a controversial penalty decision which annoyed the manager.

He said: “I think we played really well. We competed well in the first half and shut them out which is what we wanted to do.

“Their player took the first goal well, but the penalty was a poor decision by the referee, and that sort of killed the game as a contest.

“There was hardly any contact and it was so soft it was unbelievable. At 1-0 down away at Biggleswade it’s a bitter pill to swallow.”

The Dorchester boss also said that the result shows how one lapse in concentration can cost the team.

He said: “We switched off for a 20-minute spell but that’s when they got their goals. Those jobs have to be done for the full duration of the game.

“We have a young side and sometimes they go in at half-time thinking the job’s done. Some games are horrible and pass you by, but you’ve still got to do your job.

“It killed the game and gave them that bit of confidence because they were struggling to compete with us. They weren’t getting it all their own way, and we stifled them.”

Dorchester Town Reserves will be looking to make it three wins in a row as they travel to AFC Portchester in the Wyvern Combination midweek league tonight (7.45pm).
