DORSET captain Chris Park admitted the club’s selectors were forced into making some difficult decisions ahead of their opening Unicorns One Day Knockout fixture away at Devon tomorrow (11am).

The Minor Counties outfit, who head into their first competitive fixture of the season this weekend, have opted to bring in Somerset leg-spinner Max Waller for the encounter, as well as former Hampshire left-arm paceman Tom Barber.

Ryan Scott and James Hayman miss out for Dorset this weekend – a pair of decisions that Park admitted were difficult to make.

“There were some really tough calls really, and we spoke to both of those guys,” he told Echosport.

“There were some headache decisions because the squad is getting bigger, stronger and better.

“It’s a great side. We are looking forward to getting started.

“To have a spin line-up of Max Waller, Sam Thomson and Jigar (Naik) is brilliant to have.”

One man Dorset have also drafted in to boost the middle order is Lymington batsman Ed Ellis, who scored 537 runs in the Southern League last season at an average of 38.36 – including a blistering 140 against Bashley.

The 21-year-old also helped his cause for selection with an unbeaten 65 for the Dorset Leopards against Bournemouth University at Wimborne last Sunday.

Park added: “Ed Ellis will be making his full debut on Sunday.

“We just felt the time was right to get him into the batting line-up. He has impressed during the winter.”
