DORSET skipper Chris Park believes he can see a “maturity” in the performance of Luke Webb at present.

Middle order batsman Webb, who is in the Dorset squad to take on Oxfordshire in the Unicorns Knockout Trophy at Bashley tomorrow (11am), has been the shining light for the Minor Counties outfit, with scores of 58 and 60 in the senior side’s first two fixtures this season.

Webb has been part of two crucial stands to recover the Dorset innings after others in the top order have failed in those games, and, while he wants more of his batsmen to fire, captain Park is happy to see the 21-year-old thrive under the pressure.

Asked about Webb’s start to the campaign, Park told Echosport: “I think there is more and more maturity in his batting.

“I think batting in one-day cricket, when you have scoreboard pressure and limited overs, he has worked out his own game plan.

“Starting the season with the two games we have played, he has been influential in getting the innings back on track.

“I feel there is a maturity and an understanding of his cricket that I like.”

Max Waller is now expected to be unavailable for Dorset this weekend, while Ryan Scott and Dom Clutterbuck have both been included in the squad.
