WEYMOUTH’S Amy Jo Hansford has set herself the target of winning the Southern XC series and gaining a top-10 finish in the National XC Championships.

The mountain biker finished 10 minutes in front of the second-place racer in the first Southern XC round, giving her great confidence going into the first National round the following week, where she finished eighth overall despite being seeded last.

A bout of flu forced Hansford out of the second round of the Southern XC Championships but she bounced back to finish eighth once again in the second round of the Nationals, moving her up to fifth place overall with just three rounds remaining.

n Hansford trains as part of Weymouth’s Mud, Sweat n Gears cycle club, who allow all levels of riders to race against competitors of a similar ability, giving them the chance to progress and move up through the scoring system.

The club are holding a series of road races at the Park & Ride in Weymouth, starting on Tuesday (7pm).
