THERE will be a new name on Dorchester & District Evening League’s Knockout Cup trophy this year.

The first round of the cup is now complete and which saw last year’s winners, Cattistock, already out, beaten off the last ball of their match by Martinstown.

The beginning of the second round has already produced the first surprise, with Plush from Division Two beating top-flight outfit Dewlish.

Roger Edmonds’ five wickets for 28, including a hat-trick, restricted the visitors to 127-7 and some good team batting enabled Plush to pass this score in the last over.

Dan Belt did his best, taking two wickets while conceding only 11 runs from his four overs and things might have been different if a close lbw call had gone his way but Graeme Stephens was able to see Plush home while

celebrating the use of their new kit.

In league games, ASM were again victims of superb bowling figures, this time from Gabs Osbourne with six wickets for 12 runs.

ASM’s team total of 138 was rather more respectable than last week’s, though still not enough to prevent the points going to Dorchester Casuals.

Good figures of 4-15 by Puddletown Seconds’ Steven Chaldecott deserve praise, but Winfrith beat his side by three wickets.

Cerne Valley comfortably saw off Frampton thanks to 85 not out from Alex Healey and 4-19 from George Hutchins.

There were also wins for Charlton Down first and second sides, for Abbotsbury by just one run against Cattistock Seconds and for Puddletown, where 60 from skipper Lucas Allen and 4-25 from Ryan Norman proved too much for Bere Regis.

There was also an astounding piece of batting at Charlton Down, where Sam Roles of the home side hit visitors Hazelbury Bryan to all parts of the ground, including 10 sixes and 16 fours in an astonishing individual score of 154 not out from the 56 balls he faced – that’s an average of 2.75 from every ball.

Not surprisingly the away side did not threaten Charlton Down’s team total of 216, losing by 138 runs.
