CHARLTON DOWN 299-6 (20pts) beat POOLE TOWN III 63 (pts) by 236 runs

A MAIDEN century for 20-year-old Jack Eveleigh set up Charlton Down for an emphatic 236-run victory over Poole Town Thirds.

Charlton Down lost the toss and was asked to bat on what seemed a bowler friendly surface.

Jae Miller (60) and Jack Eveleigh (113) started cautiously, seeing off the opening bowlers from Poole.

The cautious start saw only 40 runs from the first 10 overs thanks to some tight bowling but some wayward change bowling saw Miller and Eveleigh move the score to 115 at the 20-over mark.

In the 27th over, the pair brought up their incredible 150 partnership but in the next over Miller was bowled by Khambekar for 60.

Nick Voss came to the crease and hit a quickfire 42 from 23 balls including two sixes and five fours but was bowled by Power with the score on 208-2 in the 34th over.

Cameo innings from Sam Roles (16) and Matt Stevens (21) pushed the score along to 285 in the 42nd over.

Eveleigh, who had batted beautifully for his 113, eventually fell in the 43rd over caught at point trying to push the score on in the final few overs.

Eveleigh hit 10 fours but his placement and running between the wicket was the trademark of his patient innings.

Charlton Down closed their innings on 299-6 after 45 overs to set Poole an unlikely target of 300 to win.

Charlton Down's bowlers matched their batting and with some great fielding had the Poole batsmen in lots of problems.

The opening pair of Matt and Dan Stevens ripped apart Poole's top order.

Matt Stevens (1-14) struck first in the fifth over forcing Hobbs (4) to a simple catch to Roles at short extra cover.

Dan Stevens (4-7) then got the outside edge of Khamekar (1) and was well caught by man of the match Jack Eveleigh at gully.

Eades, Webster and Kellawell were then all bowled by Dan Stevens, two of them deceived by excellent slower balls, to leave Poole on 30-5 after 14 overs.

A change of bowling saw the spin of Roles (4-16) and James Pretty (1-15) finish off the Poole lower order in comfortable fashion.

Poole finished all out for 63 in the 23rd over.

Skipper for the day Jae Miller was delighted with Charlton Down's performance.

He said: β€œIt was a complete team performance and scoring 299 having been asked to bat on a useful bowling wicket was very pleasing.

"Jack batted fantastic and the whole team was very pleased for him scoring his first century.”
