WEYMOUTH captain Simon Browne is hoping for a stronger batting performance as his side look to overcome Wimborne and Colehill Seconds at Redlands in County Division One tomorrow (1pm).

The Seasiders were troubled with the bat against Broadstone Seconds and Christchurch, but Browne feels his team can stop the current run of two losses against the league’s bottom club.

He said: “We’ve just got to be a little bit better at batting. The bowling and fielding has been okay but, actually, we haven’t been in the position where we can win with 200 runs.

“If we can improve on those parts of the game, I’m confident we can turn the run of defeats into a win.”

Browne told Echosport he is unsure what to expect from the visitors, who were beaten by six wickets in the corresponding fixture last season.

“When you’re playing second teams you don’t know whether you’re going to have a weak or a strong side. It’s hit and miss. Broadstone managed to put out 11 players for the first time this season and beat us, which upset the form book,” he said.

With a third of the season gone, Browne believes Weymouth are in better shape than at the same stage last term.

He said: “I think realistically we should have beaten Broadstone but I’d give us a C-plus or a B-minus if I were to mark us. We’ve got three wins which is more than this time last season, so that’s an improvement.”

Weymouth make two changes after the defeat to Christchurch as opening batsmen Dean Janaway and Paul Collins return, replacing Joe James and Tom England.
