CHRIS Park is excited to see how the fresh faces picked for Dorset’s three-day MCCA Championship clash at Wiltshire, starting tomorrow (11am), adapt to making the step up.

The Dorset skipper confirmed to Echosport that his side are set to name no fewer than four debutants in the form of Martinstown opener Ed Nichols, batsman Alex Eckland, spinner Dom Clutterbuck and young seamer Scott Currie in their XI at Corsham CC.

Reported at just 16 years 47 days, Currie is believed to be the youngest player ever to represent the county in Championship cricket.

That, coupled with Sam Collins and Simon Woodruff making their second appearances, leaves more than half of the Dorset team inexperienced at Minor Counties level.

But county captain Park is backing the ability of his new charges to make an impact and help Dorset record their first three-day victory of the summer, having had the upper hand in a rain-affected draw against Devon last time out.

Asked about the debutants, Park said: “It’s great to have that fresh blood and that enthusiasm.

“They will all be eager beavers to impress – I am sure they will sleep well after days one and two that’s for sure!

“It will be interesting to get some of their reactions after Tuesday just to see how tired or fatigued they are really, because it’s hard cricket. They will get a real taste of it.”

He added: “The importance of (Michael) Porter and (Luke) Webb, Jigar (Naik), myself and Mark (Wolstenholme), being five senior cricketers in the side - we all need to help the others, but put in a performance and step up to the plate as well.”

On the game itself, the skipper added: “Wiltshire are a good side and are maybe stronger than the side that Devon had out.

“We held our own against Devon and had our noses in front in that game, we are just looking to continue the momentum that we took from that game.

“We want the bowlers bowling in tandem and in pairs but, what most impressed me was our batting, this is where we need the guys to step up."
