HONORARY Weymouth Golf Club member and two-time former junior champion Paul Casey finished his bid to claim the US Open in 26th spot at Erin Hills.
Casey, who broke 100 for the first time on the Dorset course as a youngster, had gone into the final round of the major championship on in a four-way share of the lead with Tommy Fleetwood and American duo Brooks Koepka and Brian Harman.
But a score of 75 on Saturday and a closing 74 saw the former Weymouth ace drop out of contention over the weekend to finish the tournament on two-under-par.
American Koepka powered his way to a first major title, carding a closing 67 to finish 16-under, matching the tournament scoring record set by Rory McIlroy at Congressional in 2011.
The big-hitting 27-year-old fired six birdies and a solitary bogey to finish four shots ahead of overnight leader Harman and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, with Fleetwood a shot further back following a final round of 72.
