WILTSHIRE 442-6 & 196-9 dec (24pts) beat DORSET 232 & 188 (4pts) by 218 runs

FORMER Dorset man Jake Lintott came back to haunt his previous county as Wiltshire sealed an emphatic 218-run win over Dorset at Corsham.

Having smashed 103 from just 95 balls in the first innings, all-rounder Lintott, a previous vice-captain to skipper Chris Park in the Dorset set-up, produced a stellar display with the ball on the final day of the contest to skittle out his former side and inflict Dorset’s first three-day defeat of the campaign.

Resuming on 19-1 chasing an unrealistic 407 for victory, the away side were in more trouble when captain Park (5) was trapped leg before by James Arney.

That brought Luke Webb (69) to the crease and he put on a resilient partnership of 98 alongside opener Sam Collins (36) – both batsmen eventually fell to Wiltshire skipper and former Gloucestershire man, Ed Young.

Opener Collins batted for more than two-and-a-half hours during his knock, facing 129 balls as Dorset looked to save the contest.

That stand was as good as it got for the visitors however, as Lintott set to work, claiming 6-50 in the process.

Having already claimed the wicket of Martinstown skipper and debutant Ed Nichols (7) late on day two, he dismissed Mike Porter (0), Jigar Naik (8), Alex Eckland (5) Simon Woodruff (0) and Scott Currie (0) all for less than double figures individually, as Dorset’s hopes of saving the game were thwarted.

There was some late resistance from Bournemouth’s Dom Clutterbuck, his spirited knock of 29 came from 35 deliveries before he was caught by keeper Patrick Grieshaber off the bowling of Jake Goodwin (1-12) to give Wiltshire a comfortable victory.

The home side took a whopping 24 league points from the contest, while Dorset came away with just four to show for their efforts.

Dorset’s next test is an away clash at Herefordshire, starting on Sunday, July 2 (11am).
