WEYMOUTH skipper Simon Browne is targeting a rare win at Poole Park when his side takes on Poole Town Seconds in County Division One tomorrow (1.30pm).

Browne admitted to Echosport he has been on the losing side for the past “four or five” occasions he’s played at Poole Park, but wants to reverse that streak with a fifth win of the season.

The Seasiders come into the game on a high having rescued a 19-run win from an entertaining match against Wimborne & Colehill Seconds, taking the visitors’ last nine wickets for 42 runs.

He said: “To get Wimborne all out for 200 was a great turnaround and a testament to the way we’ve been playing this year.

“There’s always a chance we can turn those games around and we did that on Saturday. We’ll try and continue against Poole where we haven’t had a great deal of form. It would be nice to turn them over.

“I think the last four or five times I’ve played there, I’ve come off second best, but runs are only there to make reference to when you’re trying to get positives out of a situation.

“It would be good to end the run of defeats we’ve had up their way.”

Last week Browne called for more application from his batsmen and the lower order duly responded with Jack Sapsworth (21) and Dom Webb (18) both making crucial contributions.

“I’ve been saying all along that it doesn’t have to be 50, sometimes 15, 20 or the lower order getting into double figures can certainly boost the total.

“It’s a team sport for a reason and that’s to give an opportunity to everyone. This week we’re missing some bowlers so it’s important that we put runs on,” Browne said.

Harry Mitchell and Sami Rathnayake are the bowlers in question, while batsman Paul Collins also sits the game out.

Browne is hoping that Doug Williams and Joe James will replace them, with wicketkeeper Dave Blackman confirmed as coming into the side.

Of Poole, who sit sixth in the league after being promoted last season, Browne is again unsure of what to expect from a second-string side.

“The fact that they came up means that they are good at taking control of matches. Availability will be key for them but it’s very much a case of dealing with what we have to deal with on the day,” he added.

n Weymouth Seconds return to County Division Six action at Redlands tomorrow against Wimborne & Colehill Fourths. The Seasiders currently sit fifth, 24 points and one place behind them.
