THE Year Three boys from Radipole Primary put on a ruthless display of winning tennis at the Wey Valley Centre to take back the 15th annual Pengilly Cup for their school.

This team event, sponsored by Pengillys Solicitors, is run for Weymouth and Portland children in Year Three or below, and played on mini courts.

The format includes both singles and doubles matches, as well as agility skills, beat the coach and a tennis quiz.

Newcomers to the game compete alongside those with more experience to gain points for their school team.

Radipole saw both their teams, the Year Three ‘All Stars’ and the promising Year One ‘Rebels’ progress into the semi-final stage, with Southill Surfers and St Nicholas just squeaking through at the expense of St Andrews and the Southill Superstars.

In the final, Southill were no match for the Radipole team and the latter ran out clear winners.

Other prizes went to Nell Ryan from Southill, who impressed the coaches and to Caitlin Griffin for her efforts on the agility circuit. Everyone who took part received a certificate and a water bottle.

Junior co-ordinator, Chris Penny, was pleased with the day’s tennis and grateful for the support from Weymouth Tennis Club’s coaches, parents and older juniors who helped out on court.

She said: ”We would like to thank Pengillys Solicitors for their ongoing sponsorship.

“It was great to see the children having fun on the tennis court, learning new skills and competing as a team.”
