SUPERB late interceptions from WD Rosie Barton enabled Café Oasis to earn a draw against Wyke Smugglers in their final game of the summer season.

Both teams showed their strengths from the start of the first quarter.

Excellent shooting from Café Oasis allowed them to take an early lead – however, Smugglers worked hard in the centre court to gain possession of the ball, managing to level out the score difference and ultimately end the quarter a goal ahead.

Wyke Smugglers’ GA Tracy Moore took advantage of every ball with some impressive long-shots, to allow her team to extend their lead.

Café Oasis responded with determined attacking play, driving the ball up the court where their shooters were waiting to convert.

Smugglers’ led slightly going into the final quarter and was evenly-matched as both teams increased the pressure.

Smugglers worked hard to maintain their lead, upping their attacking play – however, Barton showed off her defensive skill with three phenomenal interceptions, all resulting in turnovers which allowed her team to level the score as the match ended.

COASTAL CHEESE 36

THE Potting Shed took the honours in this mid-table clash.

Coastal Cheese came out with fierce determination, working well to take control of the ball and scored a number of goals in succession, carving out a small lead.

Potting Shed were able to find their rhythm, however, Coastal Cheese managed to maintain their lead going into the second quarter.

Potting Shed came back with renewed enthusiasm, scoring two goals in the first minute of the quarter.

Some brilliant interceptions from C Jodie Sage were key in allowing Potting Shed to pull ahead.

Coastal Cheese responded with accurate passing from C Wendy Doyle and WA Anna Mitchell with excellent communication, preventing Potting Shed from furthering their lead.

Coastal Cheese came back with a final push – however, Potting Shed were equally determined, with impressive interceptions from Rebekah Wilson at GD allowing her team to capitalise on extra goals to increase their lead and claim the victory in this action-packed, tightly-contested match.

GEORGE BAR AND GRILL 65

RED-HOT George and Grill grilled Poachers in their final top-flight outing of the campaign.

Despite Poachers’ efforts at gaining possession, they were unable to match George’s playing power, giving George the advantage going into the second quarter.

Poachers continued to feel George’s defensive pressure; however, they were persistent in their play and displayed some strong passes into the circle.

George’s energy seemed to dwindle, allowing Poachers to close the difference. Nevertheless, George Bar and Grill continued to give it their all, maintaining a strong lead going into the final quarter.

George seemed to find their flow, resulting in faster-paced play, which proved to be a challenge for Poachers.

Despite Poachers’ best efforts, they were unable to stop the George, who walked away victorious.
