YOUNG cricketers at Martinstown have completed and enjoyed yet another successful season.

Approximately 90 youngsters have attended youth sessions, run by a group of dedicated coaches and managers at the well-equipped Lower Ashton Farm ground.

Youth co-ordinator, Lee House said: “It has been a real privilege to see a ground of young players of all ages learn and have fun playing during the season.

“Many have experienced the game for the first time, and it’s fantastic to see the enjoyment they get from the sport.”

The Villagers have five youth teams, and they have performed well in various competitions.

The under-15 side reached the semi-finals of the County Cup for the second year running, the under-13s made the quarter-finals of the County Cup and are also the Dave Cheffey Cup winners after a narrow victory over Bridport.

The various teams have also performed strongly in the league, however, the emphasis is on involving all the players, learning and most importantly having fun.

House added: “At Martinstown we pride ourselves on developing the next generation of cricketers, for all levels.

“Many of our youngsters are in the County and West Dorset set-ups, but we also have a number playing in our Sunday TT25 side.

“We offer cricket for all in a friendly and social environment.

“It has been brilliant seeing a number of our younger players represent our first XI in the Dorset Premier League, including Sean Williams, John Stewart, Jack Kane, Nathan McNab, Charlie Durant and William Maltby.

“They, along with our youngsters in all the sides, have performed admirably and should learn from these experiences.

“They should be very proud of their efforts. The future is bright and the Martinstown faithful certainly enjoy watching our home grown players.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped and supported the youth set-up this year from our coaches and managers, through to the club committee and our groundstaff who maintain one of the best grounds in the county.”

The club will shortly announce their winter training programme.
