A FATHER and daughter duo have been selected to represent Britain at the World Championships for Icelandic horses next month.

Jemimah and Mike Adams, from Sturminster Newton, were selected among six adult riders and two youth riders for the world event, set to take place in Holland from August 7-13.

They are reigning British Champions in both the pace and gait disciplines. The Icelandic horse is the original horse of the Vikings, taken to Iceland more than a thousand years ago and pure bred ever since.

As well as the usual gaits – walk, trot and canter – Icelandic horses also have the four-beat running walk known as a tölt.

Speaking ahead of the event, Jemimah Adams said: “It is always an honour to represent Great Britain at the World Championships and all our riders will do their best to show the world how competitive riding and training of Icelandic horses is increasing in Great Britain.”

The GB team for Icelandic horses does not have available funds to help cover the expenses of taking part in the World Championships, such as the travel, stabling, team expenses and team uniform among other aspects of the trip. Those that take part do so by their own means.

The IHSGB (Icelandic Horse Society of Great Britain) are currently fundraising to help the team get to Holland.
