DORCHESTER will run out against a Wooden Spoon select XV for a pre-season charity game in aid of the Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby on Friday.

A good crowd is expected to spur both sides on to perform with kick-off set for 7.30pm at Coburg Road.

Dorchester commence their 2017/18 league campaign against rivals Bournemouth at Coburg Road on Saturday, September 9.

The county town club is a partner club of Wooden Spoon and joined forces with the national charity just over a year ago to support the children’s charity of rugby.

Wooden Spoon was formed in 1983, and bases its values on those of the game of rugby.

The charity's vision is that through the power of rugby every child and young person, no matter what their background has access to the same opportunities and to positively transform the lives of children and young people with a disability or facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland.

Their lead ambassador is former England captain and west country favourite Phil Vickery.

The invitation side will draw from local clubs to raise a strong Barbarian style side that will be led once again by Andy Gomarsall, who won 137 caps for Gloucester, 82 for Wasps, 64 for Harlequins and 35 for England.

After what will undoubtedly be a great game of rugby, Gomarsall will join the players and supporters after the match to chat about his time in the sport and gain support for this fantastic charity.

Gomarsall took to the field to play in this fixture last season and will no doubt join the game this time.

The family fun evening will also have a raffle including rugby memorabilia, an outside bar and barbecue.

The clubhouse opens from 6pm.
