PORTLAND United boss Simon Browne is looking to “take advantage” of tonight’s midweek Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division clash against Bournemouth FC at Grove Corner (7.45pm).

The fixture adds to a number of home Tuesday night games that the Blues have contested and, with few remaining, Browne is keen to cash in against an “unpredictable” and “temperamental” Poppies side.

He told Echosport: “There’s not many more midweek games coming up, so we need to take advantage of that and put three points on the board if we can.

“There’s a couple of players that have been there for a while that I know a little about. They’re an unpredictable side. They’ve got players who on their day are not bad, but they can be temperamental.

“One of them, Fawzi Saadi, has picked up more red cards than you can shake a stick at. He’s a good player but has been known to lose his discipline on occasions so it will be interesting to see how that pans out.

“It’s one of those that we need to start brightly and maybe we’ll benefit from a lack of discipline.”

And Browne is looking to build on the Blues’ 3-1 win over Petersfield Town, which consolidated their 12th position and took their recent points tally to 10 from their past five games.

He said: “We’ve got another opportunity with a home game to put three points on the board. If we can win it gives a little bit of distance between the top and bottom half.

“Hopefully we’ll be in the top half, not the bottom. We have got to apply ourselves like the last three or four games.

“If we do that there’s every chance we can pick up another three points.”
