WEYMOUTH striker Brandon Goodship admitted there was “no better feeling” after his hat-trick helped the Terras to a 3-2 win over Merthyr Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Currently enjoying a devastating run of form which has seen him score eight goals in five games, Goodship was “delighted” with his treble.

He told Echosport: “That’s a good statistic and I’m really happy with that. It’s a bit of a cliché in football, but the three points are the most important thing.

“I’m delighted with the hat-trick and there’s no better feeling than scoring a goal, let alone scoring three. Hopefully we can take that into Saturday and continue the performance.”

Commenting on his penalty, which he scored to level the game at 1-1, Goodship preferred instead to praise the build-up play from Josh Carmichael, whose incisive pass fed Calvin Brooks before the right wing-back was fouled in the area.

He said: “For some reason every keeper seems to guess where I go! The last few are finding the net and that’s all that matters at the minute.

“It was an important goal but the build-up for it was unbelievable. Josh Carmichael’s pass out wide – he’s got that in his locker all day – and Calvin obviously twisting left-backs up all season. He’s done brilliantly to win yet another penalty for us.”

Goodship then scored eight minutes after half-time, the forward insisting the Terras felt they were the likely winners during what the forward described as their “best performance” this season.

He said: “We went in at half-time relatively pleased with how we played and the message was to go out there and outrun them, and I felt we did that.

“I always felt the second goal was coming and when it did obviously I was delighted.

“To be fair the lad has put one in from 25 yards that no keeper in the world is going to stop and even after that I felt that we were going to go on and win the game. It was probably our best performance this season.”

Reflecting on his hat-trick goal on 87 minutes, Goodship felt words could not describe his feeling.

He said: “There is no better feeling than scoring a goal and obviously a last-minute winner to complete your hat-trick – words can’t describe that.

“But we’ll be looking to build on that Saturday and pick up another three points on the road.”

And Goodship lavished praise on his strike partners, with the Terras amassing 17 goals in their past five games.

“Bakes (Harry Baker) and Thommo (Ben Thomson) have been outstanding all season chipping in with goals themselves and they’re only improving every single game like we all are.

“Tubbsy’s come in, he’s already scored, he’s setting up goals and his experience is invaluable. He’s been different class in the dressing room with us all as well. Hopefully that will continue."
