LYTCHETT 27

DORCHESER 31

AS THE first team had the weekend off before the Ridgway Rumble against Weymouth this weekend, Dorchester’s senior section looked to the A XV in their Dorset & Wilts Shield game for a result, and they did not disappoint.

The county town side started the game well with all the pressure on Lytchett, but after 15 minutes of not letting Lytchett out of their own half, Dorchester had only a missed penalty to show for their efforts.

The first score came from the home team and they quickly took a 14-0 lead.

Dorchester got their first score through a George Foot penalty and then quickly turned pressure into points when, new recruit from Weymouth, Luc Scadden was on the end of a sweeping move stepping inside a number of tackles to score near the posts.

Foot duly converted the try. However, a penalty for Lytchett put them back ahead 17-10.

Dorchester levelled the scores by half-time through a try by their man of the match Josh Hosford, again converted by Foot.

Lytchett took the lead again with two further tries. Dorchester took time to re-adjust following some injuries and began to add pressure again.

They then scored a try from a charge down.

With five minutes left, a loose Lytchett clearance was taken by Chris Lawton who ran it back and broke the final tackle to score under the posts.

Foot added the conversion giving Dorchester the lead.

Despite late pressure from the home side, Dorchester claimed a hard fought physical victory 27-31.

Both the first XV and A XV now have home semi-finals in their respective competitions.

The first team will entertain Supermarine on Saturday, November 18 while the A side will welcome Sherborne on Saturday, December 2.

Dorchester’s strong under-16 side took yet another victory over a talented New Milton side and the mini section enjoyed a very successful weekend at the festival hosted by Swanage & Wareham.

The future of the club is looking very strong under the guidance of junior chairman Michele Harding.

The ladies continued their strong run this season with a fine win over Chard at home 49-5.

The club now looks forward to a big weekend with a derby against Weymouth in the Wadworths 6X Dorset & Wilts One South (3pm).
