WINCHESTER CITY RES 2
DORCHESTER TOWN RES 1

DORCHESTER Reserves’ unbeaten start to the season in the Wyvern Combination Midweek League came to an end at Winchester.

The Magpies saw several first-team players start in an experimental squad with nine changes, as Dorchester manager Steve Thompson wanting to see his squad players get minutes.

The result leaves the county town outfit in second place, three points behind leaders Basingstoke Town with the Magpies having played a game less. Winchester are up to sixth in the table after the result, which was their first home win of the season.

City got an early goal through Joshua McCormick in the fourth minute before the Magpies had a penalty claim turned down.

The margin was widened in the 50th minute when McCormick scored again. Samyan Ismail reduced the arrears but the Magpies could not find an equaliser.

Reserves’ boss Richard Robson said that it was ‘a bit of a kick in the teeth’ to see their unbeaten record end.

The Magpies next face Alderholt at home in the second round of the Dorset Senior Trophy.
