BUDMOUTH College in Weymouth has been awarded the Youth Sport Trust Silver Quality Mark for its commitment to physical education (PE) and school sport at its school.

The Youth Sport Trust is a national charity that builds a brighter future for young people through the power of sport.

The Quality Mark is an online self-review tool which provides schools with a nationally recognised badge of excellence for the quality of its PE and school sports, which supports schools to audit their PE provision and identify priorities for its development.

Headteacher of Budmouth College Mrs Amanda Fortescue said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded the Silver Quality Mark from the Youth Sport Trust, which recognises our commitment to delivering the best possible sporting experiences for the young people at our school.

“There are a whole range of educational, health and wellbeing benefits from delivering high quality PE and school sport, and we see on a regular basis that when it is delivered well it can transform the lives of all pupils.”

Budmouth College has been excelling in many sporting activities recently including the U16 table tennis team getting through to the National Championships after winning the Dorset Schools Team Championships and the KS 4 boys badminton team have won the South West Area School Games tournament and will now go through to the Dorset finals in February.

Their other achievements include the U15 Rugby team being through to the 4th round of the NatWest Vase, the U16 Rugby team are through to the quarter finals of the County cup, the U13 girls Football team won the South West round of the English Football League cup and will now play the regional round at Bristol Rovers and the U15 girls Football team are through to the County Cup semi-finals.

Budmouth College also leads a variety of annual trips for their students to major sporting events including: international Rugby Union games at Twickenham, the All England Yonex Badminton finals at the Barclaycard arena in Birmingham, the Superleague Netball matches at Bath university and T20 cricket matches at the County Ground, Taunton.

Schools are awarded bronze, silver and gold status, which reflects its efforts in using PE and school sport to raise achievement across the school.
