WIMBORNE PHOENIX RESERVES 3
PORTLAND TOWN RESERVES 5
PORTLAND Town Reserves stormed back to action after a week off with a 5-3 win at leaders Wimborne Phoenix Reserves in Dorset League Division Three.
Wimborne had been looking to continue their winning streak but Town were in no mood to submit after winning their first game of the season 5-1 at Wool United Reserves last time out.
Town's first goal came shortly after kick-off as Rich Limm picked up the ball and dropped it just behind the defence for Danny Sheppard to run on to and finish.
Steve Reid then assisted Sheppard's 100th club goal, the Town hitman then going on to claim his hat-trick in the first-half.
Town were running riot at this stage and an Andy Jones brace made it 5-0 at half-time, a scoreline which could have been boosted with efforts from Jon Mckenzie and Ben Gilbert.
Wimborne had one chance at goal in the first half but with debutant Adam McKay making a great save Town kept the home side out.
Town endured a tough second half as Wimborne looked for a way back into the game. Phoenix did stage a mini comeback, converting a penalty in one of three second-half goals, but it was insufficent as Town held on to win.
Commenting on his side's performance after the game, manager Paul Barber said: "That was the best first half I've seen in 10 years playing for the town! It was no luck at all and really we should have been 10-up at half-time, we dominated."
Town: McKay, Robinson, Moorley, Riley, Russ, Reid, Mckenzie, Gilbert, Limm, Jones, Sheppard. Subs: Hunt, Atkins, Barber.
* Danny Sheppard claimed man-of-the-match
