WEYMOUTH Wildcats have announced their third new rider for the 2018 season after teenager Jacob Fellows was named as the Cats’ latest recruit.

Fellows, 15, is an older cousin to Bailey, who was unveiled as Weymouth’s second signing this year after James Jessop joined the south-coast outfit.

Commenting on his move, Jacob said: “I’m looking forward to stepping up onto the 500cc and am really grateful for the opportunity to ride for Weymouth. I’ll be doing my best to score plenty of points."

Diminutive rider Fellows, like Bailey, hails from Leicester and Wildcats’ co-promoter Martin Peters said the lure of gaining more experience proved crucial in the deal.

He told Echosport: “I’ve spent a long time with Bailey and his Dad, Adam.

“Jacob was riding in the same class and was with us, so I said ‘I know you two guys, you’re not worried about travelling, come and get some experience riding for us.’"

On Jacob, Peters revealed that the youngster has had a “specially-designed” frame to help attune his stature to the powerful 500cc machines.

He said: “He’s a little bit lighter on the bike so he’s probably going to be going faster. He’s had a specially-designed frame. Other than that his style is pretty much the same.

“The size of the bike is the factor for him. He had to wait a long time to get his frame.”
