WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley praised a “mature performance” from his side as they collected a vital three points at fellow promotion chasers Royston Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

A Brandon Goodship double, including a penalty, helped overcome John Frendo’s 18th-minute goal for the hosts, who saw their intimidating home record of nine wins in 10 games blitzed by an impressive display from Molesley’s men.

Speaking after the game, the Weymouth boss was delighted by how his team had turned the game around after Frendo’s opening strike.

He told Echosport: “It’s a big win for us. They were top of the form table and hot on our heels. It was important that we didn’t rely on other teams and did the job ourselves.

“I think we were well worth our victory.

“We had a slow start and they got their goal. But we rallied their storm and we got ourselves going in the second half.

“It was a mature performance in the second half. We showed we can mix it with the challenges they gave us and it was important we pegged them back.”

Elaborating on a pulsating second half that saw Weymouth create numerous chances, Molesley was proud of his players for adapting to a difficult pitch that inhibited the Terras’ usual fluent football.

He said: “The second half was particularly pleasing. It was a bit of a scrappy pitch, it wasn’t one where we could play our free-flowing football. I counted we had six one-on-ones in the second half.

“To pick three points up after a long travel was great.”

Molesley also praised Abdulai Baggie, who committed himself to playing despite his partner expecting the imminent birth of the couple’s child.

“Baggie drove up and there was a phone on the bench. We were hoping he could get through the game!

“He played really well and was a constant menace. He wanted to play and it spoke volumes for him,” he said.
