WEYMOUTH assistant-manager Paul Maitland feels the Terras have given themselves a “shot in the arm” after picking up three victories in a week.

Responding to a poor 2-1 defeat to lowly Dunstable Town, Weymouth have amassed nine points from their next three games with a 6-0 thrashing of Farnborough, a 2-1 success at Royston Town and a 3-0 triumph at Merthyr Town.

With promotion rivals Kettering Town losing 4-3 at Royston, Weymouth were in second place before Hereford won 2-0 on Tuesday night, and Maitland believes the club is in a “good position” going into the final third of the season.

He told Echosport: “It will be another big month. There’s no denying that we’ve put ourselves in a good position, we’ll see where it takes us.

“We’ve given ourselves a real shot in the arm. It can always be better but I don’t think we’ve got too many complaints at the moment.

“At the moment we’re not eyeing any particular position. It’s just about accumulating as many points as we can.”

Asked whether the lurking Hereford and Slough, who have multiple games in hand over the Terras, were a concern, Maitland believes both sides have extra pressure on them.

“You can’t waste time worrying. We’ll just worry about ourselves and move on to Saturday – we’ve got a week to prepare for that game.

“We’ll be looking to make a few adjustments. Hopefully we’ll have one or two more available as well.

“The teams with games in hand have pressure on them, but we’ll worry about controlling what we can control,” he said.

Weymouth next face St Neots Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday after a punishing schedule of fixtures that has seen them play away in six out of nine games so far in 2018.

Maitland said: “We’ve chalked off those away games and it’s a far more balanced month this month.

“It’s given us extra time to recover, which will be very important going through the rest of the season.

“Clearly that’s a good thing if we can manage the workload now for the players.”
