WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley rued illness and the manner of conceding the second goal as the Terras fell to a 2-0 defeat against leaders Hereford.

The Terras’ boss applauded the Bulls’ first goal, a fantastic 30-yard shot from Jennison Myrie-Williams on his Hereford debut, but was disappointed with the second goal scored by Keyon Reffell.

Molesley said: “We were disappointed by the second goal, we had a couple of chances where I felt we could have cleared it but we did not and unfortunately it ricocheted to their guy who managed to put his strike in.”

With the first goal Molesley had few qualms as he explained: “They scored a fantastic effort, sometimes you have got to hold your hands up.”

“The guy hit it 30 yards inside the stanchion and back up. It was a fantastic strike, we will always look at ourselves and think if there was anything we could have done to prevent it.”

The Terras have been beset by illness recently which Molesley admitted had made it tougher for them.

Molesley said: “It has been a tough week internally for us, we have had a bit of illness in the camp and there are two or three players out there who have done really well to put the shirt on for Weymouth on Saturday.

“I think if we had a big squad I would not have had to take a risk with a couple of players but unfortunately we had to. We will reflect on the game, analyse it and look to see how we can improve for Saturday.”

Weymouth top scorer Brandon Goodship was one of those who was ill and it was one of the reasons why he was substituted on the 77th minute for new signing Thiago Caze da Silva.

Molesley explained: “We were made aware that there was a lad that has recently come into the country who has got quite a good football CV, good pedigree. “We went and watched him during the week and thought he has got some assets that we could need. He showed up well in the game and he showed up well in training on Thursday.

“We are delighted that he has come into our football club, I think there were other people courting him.”

As a result Weymouth stay third in the table, while their opponents pull seven points clear of second place King’s Lynn Town with two games in hand over them.

In terms of the overall performance Molesley admitted:

“It was a similar game to when they came to our place really.

“On the day I think Hereford edged it.

“It was always going to be a tough ask to go there and try and win the game. We did not hit our heights, I do not think we were at our very best if I am honest.”

Molesley admitted the superb first goal was a blow: “At the time (of the first goal) we were 0-0 and had not given up too many shots on our goal even though they probably looked the more dangerous of the two teams but we were just growing into the game.

“Unfortunately the goal has come at a good time for them and it sort of killed any momentum we were trying to build.

“Fair play to Hereford, they are top of the league for a reason.

Looking ahead Molesley said: “We have got to dust ourselves down because we have got to be ready again on Saturday (at home to Slough Town) and it is another big game for us.”
