CHICKERELL UNITED 3

BROADSTONE 0

NICK Voss secured a superb first-half hat-trick on his first-team debut as he fired Chickerell to their second successive league win over Broadstone.

The goals sent the Chickens to a superb victory, who had Jake McCarthy volunteer to go in goal, while defender Matt Cracknell made his debut for the club as they secured a league double over Broadstone.

Voss opened his Chickerell scoring account 10 minutes into the match, when a good move down the left-hand side saw Steve Welch set him up on the edge of the box as he fired into the bottom right-hand corner.

He would not have to wait long to double his tally as 15 minutes later a similar move produced an identical result as he shot strongly into the top right-hand corner of the net, despite the keeper getting a hand to the ball.

The Chickens got a penalty after 35 minutes and Matt Harvey generously offered it to Voss, who needed no encouragement as he fired into the bottom right corner to seal the hat-trick and victory for Chickerell.

Broadstone were playing a good passing game and stringing together some fine moves but lacked a cutting-edge when presented with chances.

In the second half, Chickerell continued to pressure Broadstone and controlled the ball well as they looked comfortable.

There was late danger for the Chickens when Broadstone failed to capitalise on the goal-line in the 85th minute.

Despite this, McCarthy was kept quiet in the Chickens’ goal and managed to keep a clean sheet despite not having played in goal in a first-team game before.

The result leaves Chickerell second in the table, two points behind leaders Corfe but with a game in hand on them, with Corfe playing third-placed Westland Sports Reserves on Saturday.

Chickerell manager Shaun Murphy said: “All in all, we are very very pleased.

“It feels fantastic. The boys stepped up, did a job and I could not have asked any more of them really. It looks like they are all really enjoying it as well that is the main thing.

“It is good at the moment, it is really good.”

Speaking about Voss, Murphy said: “I think he has scored seven or eight goals for the reserves so he was due a start for the first team. He has actually been in the first-team squad for the last few weeks but we have had so many games called off.”

Chickerell are next in action on Saturday away to Allendale (3pm).
