YOUNG Weymouth golfer Jacob Tidswell has teamed up with Frank Parker of Vinyl Revival Disco in a sponsorship deal worth £1,000.

Tidswell, 13, is considered to be one of England’s most outstanding prospects in the world of golf and he has been playing for eight years and is a member at Weymouth and Parkstone Golf Clubs.

In his short career as a golfer, Tidswell has won a staggering 40 plus competitions, finishing third in the Southwest Schools competition for under 19s at the tender age of 13.

Most recently he qualified for the UK Junior European tour finals which involved 120 international golfers and was one of only 30 English juniors to reach that stage, and he has also recently qualified for the England Boys under 14 Open.

Tidswell won the prestigious Peter Alliss Dorset County Match Play competition at Ferndown Golf Club after playing four matches of 18 holes at four different golf clubs.

He plays off a five handicap, uses TaylorMade woods, Mizuno Irons, Titleist Wedges and Pro V1X balls and when he combined them all together in 2015 at Lyme Regis he hit a 164 yard hole-in-one.

Jacob’s father Mark said: “I am very proud of Jacob’s achievements so far although it’s hard to keep his mind on other things – all he wants to do is hit golf balls and my main problem is keeping up with him and driving him to his competitions.”

Frank Parker, Weymouth’s resident DJ of Vinyl Revival said: “I have never seen a young lad hit a golf ball like he does, for such a small kid he really does have an incredible swing. The sponsorship is not only for Jacob but also to help his family with travel and competition costs.

“I think Weymouth and Dorset have a superb prospect and can be very proud of this young man and all he has achieved so far.

“Let’s hope he goes on to greater things and really puts our town and county on the world golf map.”
